What is the difference between an aesthetic seal and a simple one?

Dental fillings are one of the most common procedures performed in a dentist's office. Conventional or functional filling is the filling of a cavity in a tooth with special materials to prevent possible infections, food accumulation, etc. Properly shaped, unbroken, unworn teeth are also important for proper chewing and occlusion.
Aesthetic sealing, as the name suggests, is performed when you want to achieve the best possible visual result. Aesthetic fillings can help reduce gaps between teeth, restore chipped teeth, and may be needed to replace old, discolored fillings.

Is aesthetic filling painful?

This is usually not a painful procedure. During it, local anesthesia is applied so that the patient does not feel any unpleasant sensations. Depending on how and how many places are sealed, the procedure takes about 1-1.5 hours. During it, the damaged tooth is cleaned, damaged tissues or old fillings that need to be replaced are removed. The specialist then restores the shape of the tooth using special materials. It also selects the right shade based on the color of your teeth. After the procedure, you may wash your gums for a few days, they may be red. If unpleasant sensations persist for more than a couple of days or are extremely strong, do not hesitate to contact and consult a specialist.

Is aesthetic sealing long-lasting?

The durability of a filling, aesthetic or functional, depends on the condition of your teeth, their tendency to decay and, of course, on proper oral hygiene. Normally, fillings can last for about 8-10 years, but it is important to take proper care of your teeth and visit the dentist for a preventive check-up at least 1-2 times a year.

Can sealed teeth be whitened?

Teeth whitening should be done before filling, if it is intended. Since the fillings are chosen based on the shade of your teeth, teeth whitening should be done before filling if possible. During teeth whitening, only the natural teeth are whitened, and the fillings remain the same shade, so there may be a discrepancy in the color of the teeth. Dental implants can also be done after whitening for the same reason - to choose dentures that best match the shade of your natural teeth.
